Atlantic Irrigation took delivery and installed the largest golf irrigation pump station in the Northeast last week. Fiddler's Elbow Country Club in Bedminster, NJ selected Atlantic and Watertronics as their team to supply the bulk of their water for the foreseeable future. The new pump station skid was designed by Irrigation Consulting, Inc. of Pepperell, Mass. The station accommodates a total of seven pumps in all.
Five of these serve as their primary source of irrigation for 38 holes of their 54 hole facility, there is also a separate pump that will transfer water to the remote storage pond and pump station on demand via radio signal. The new station also includes a pump dedicated to supplying water for fire suppression for a planned maintenance building replacement. The total irrigation capacity of this impressive new pump station is rated at 3225 gallons per minute at 125 psi. Add the additional equipment and functions and this becomes the largest irrigation pump of its kind anywhere in the Northeast. Atlantic also supplied the 24" C-905 DR-18 PVC Pipe that the zee pipe will connect to, along with all related pipe and fittings.

Somerset Hills Progressing Nicely
Things are progressing nicely on the irrigation replacement at Somerset Hills Country Club in Bernardsville, NJ. First, the pump house turned out amazing. Because of environmental restrictions, the footprint of the existing pump house could not be enlarged or expanded. So, in order to gain capacity which requires larger equipment, the club chose to use a submersible pump configuration, where the pumps themselves are actually located out in the pond on sleds. These pumps discharge the water through High Density Polyethylene pipes, back to the location of the former pump house, which has been totally reconstructed from the floor up. Inside this structure is a skid that includes filtration and flow metering. The pump control panel is also located within the structure, but is not shown in the pictures below. The exterior of the new structure is a work of art. Designed to appear like a root cellar, the building is "sunken" below grade, however, due to some creative earthwork, the structure still uses the finished floor elevation of the former pump house, but earth was graded up to the new structure to make it appear that half it is below grade. I must say, it is all very tastefully accomplished for such a utilitarian type of structure. What's also nice is with the pumping equipment being located under water out in the middle of the pond, there is literally no pump noise generated from within the pump house itself. Its perfectly quiet inside the building. The only thing that makes any noise at all is an Aqua master Aqua Air system when running. This system is an air compressor that runs and generates oxygen that is fed through a series of tubes to diffusers that are strategically located in the pond. It too, like the pumps, are low visual impact. Only small disturbances may be seen at the water's surface where the oxygen from each diffuser escapes the pond. The aqua air is very efficient pond aeration, and does wonder's for keeping the pond clean and free of algae. The irrigation installation is progressing nicely as well. The contractor, Landscapes Unlimited, from Lincoln, Nebraska has worked strategically since receiving materials in early July to get mainlines and wire paths brought back to the Central Controller located at the Club's maintenance area. This was done so that the new Rain Bird IC System could be programmed and operated from the Central as early as possible. From that point on, all areas are entered into the sprinkler data base as soon as they are completed, and stations are being operated automatically almost as quickly as they are installed. Like the pumps, the pump house and the pond aeration system, the IC control system is also visually low impact on this beautiful property whereas all electrical components are buried below grade and no one has to ever look at ugly control boxes on this property ever again. The lucky members of this wonderful club will enjoy the beauty and serenity of this property the way it was intended when A.W. Tillinghast designed the golf course back in 1918. It is truly a special property and Atlantic Irrigation is very proud to be a part of this legacy.

Silver Creek Updates Ross Classic
Silver Creek Country Club is a 27 hole private club located in Hellertown, PA. be The original 18 hole course is a noteworthy gem. It happened to be famous architect Donald Ross' last design in 1947. The course which was once owned by Bethlehem Steel, is now a member owned course. The membership has made a significant investment restoring the original 18. In 2011, the Pennsylvania firm of Total Turf Golf was retained to renovate bunkers and tees. In late 2012, Silver Creek retained Atlantic Irrigation to help them update their irrigation control system with a brand new PAR+ES Control System with Stratus 2 Central using Wireless Link Radio Communication and Freedom Remote Control System. This significant update will maximize irrigation efficiency with excellent flow management. Atlantic assisted the club with the in house installation on all 27 holes. The club chose to finance this upgrade through an agreement Rain Bird Financial Services.

Atlantic Wins IC System at Sands Point Golf Club
Sands Point Golf Club is located in historic Sands Point on Long Island's North Shore, and is a great example of famous architect A.W. Tillinghast's work. This course is about to undergo a major restoration and hired Jim Blaukovitch to design new irrigation that is sensitive to the pending restoration. Jim suggested that Rain Bird's new IC system would be the perfect system since it would be easily tied into when the tees and bunkers get renovated. National Lawn Sprinkler has been chosen to install the system and as of late December 2011, work has begun. We are excited to be involved on this one and is now our second IC system to be installed on Long Island.

Atlantic Irrigation Specialties in partnership with Rain Bird Services Corporation of Upstate New York will be supplying the new irrigation system at the Sagamore Resort Golf Course in Bolton Landing, NY. With the addition of a state-of-the-art Rain Bird Irrigation System to this Donald Ross designed golf course, The Sagamore Resort will not only have a golf course that is designed by the “Patron Saint of Golf Architecture, it will be irrigated with products from a company that is known for its commitment to the Intelligent Use of Water™ and manufacturing of products with the highest value and quality.
